# Using this Book
This book contains the basic information you need to play a Chronicles of Fate tabletop game. It provides instructions for creating PCs, explains how to resolve challenges, and contains tools for playing in fantasy worlds.
This book does not contain information for running games in specific worlds but tries to provide rules that apply in every world and setting. This means that it doesn't have information regarding magic systems or items, futuristic weapons, or space travel. Rules for these types of mechanics can be found in following books.
## What's in this book?
**Chapter 1: Character Creation and Progression** describes how to create a PC and how to progress that PC as you gain experience.
**Chapter 2: Attribute and Skill Descriptions** provides descriptions for attributes and skills that define a character's strengths and weaknesses.
**Chapter 3: Character Options** lists options available to describe PCs lineage, heritage, background, qualities, and features.
**Chapter 4: Equipment** lists equipment available to PCs and explains rules for using it.
**Chapter 5: Rolling Dice** describes when, why, and how dice are used in the game.
**Chapter 6: Game Timing and Actions** details how time progresses in the game and what types of things characters can do in the game.
**Chapter 7: Interacting with the World** defines how characters interact the the creatures and objects of the world.
**Chapter 8: Life and Death** provides rules for how characters receive and heal damage and what happens when they take more damage than they can sustain.
**Chapter 9: Other Sources of Harm** describes rules for other ways characters can be harmed besides directly taking damage.
**Chapter 10: Encounters** lists specific rules for encounters that characters can experience.
**Chapter 11: Downtime Activities** describes different activities that characters can partake in when not actively adventuring.
**Chapter 13: Appendices** contains lists and tables for systems and rules described earlier in the book.
